Preventative Cleaning Tips
- Remove your street shoes and slip on indoor shoes. This keeps the floors and carpets clean
- Pick up a 3 or 4 section hamper. This way you can sort your dirty items as you go. Once one section is full, that section can be laundered.
- Fold and hang clean laundry when removed from dryer. It keeps the majority of your clothing wrinkle free. Because the hamper is now empty you have a place for dirty clothing. Eliminates confusion as to what is clean and what is dirty.
- Once the oven or burner cools, clean up spills. It saves you from scraping burnt on foods later.
- Clean up floor and carpet spills as they happen. It prolongs the need to wash floors and shampoo rugs. Also, some carpet spills will leave a permanent stain if not cleaned right away.
- Clean the cat litter at least once a day. If you have two cats, twice a day and so on. I use 'Swheat Scoop' litter because it's flush-able. This way your home always smells fresh.
- Train your dog to pee/poo in a designated area of the yard. This way it's faster to clean up and keeps the rest of your yard clear, so you don't tramp it through the house.
- Take a few seconds to soak all pots and utensils before you sit down to eat. It makes cleanup after dinner faster.
- Wash and put away all dishes after every meal. You don't want to wake up to that in the morning.
- Your dishwasher and sink should not be storage areas. Load, wash, put away.
- Don't expect the dishwasher to scrub your dishes, no matter what the commercials say. Rinse or lightly scrub off baked on food first.
- Launder the shower curtain every couple of months. Just place it in with a white load with chlorine.
- Have a squeegee in the bathtub to clean the tiles and shower door after you shower. Or use a cloth to wipe things down. As well there are daily shower sprays available. This way your shower and tub always look clean.
- Don't Use Bar Soap. It leaves a scum on everything. Use liquid soap everywhere.
- Comb the dog / cat regularly. The hair seems to embed itself into furniture, clothing and carpeting. As well it keeps down the fur bunnies.
- Live within your square footage. You should have a place to put everything. If you don't, it means you have to eliminate items. Clean out one closet at a time and dispose of broken or unused items.
- Remove from the fridge and freezer food you have no intention of eating.
- Put a 'No Junk Mail Please' sticker in your mailbox instead of bringing the junk mail into your home
- Put the toilet brush and plunger in a cupboard or closet otherwise it collects dust and looks unsightly.
- Bathroom counters that are free of clutter are easier to clean. Find a place in the medicine cabinet, cupboard or drawer to put your things. If you can't you need to clear out unused items.
- OK Guys! We're not living in the wilderness anymore. Toilets were designed to be sat on and urinals were designed to stand in front of. If you use the appliances correctly you'll avoid cleaning the mess on walls, floor, bathtub side, toilet seat and shower curtain.
- Gals, you can prevent under the seat mess, by sitting further back on the toilet.
- Make room in your closets by regularly disposing of unused, unloved and wrong size clothing. I know from experience that once you lose the weight, you'll want new clothing.
- Wash your hands often. This keeps clean the: cabinet doors, wall switches, walls you lean on, front of stove, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher etc. That's a whole lot of cleaning you can avoid.
- If you splash water on the mirror or tap, dry it off with the hand towel.
- Avoid toothpaste on the mirror by covering your mouth while brushing.
Otherwise, call me. I'll take care of it for you.
